Akron's Local News From A Black Perspective

The need for our voices to be “honestly” heard is more important than ever before. The Media coverage of the African American experience is oftentimes smeared with negative imagery and negative stereotypes. The need for a black media outlet or a “black-owned & operated” media source is essential when needing to hear what the community truly feels or has to say. I personally believe that one can’t ask a Burger King employee about the secret sauce that goes on a McDonald’s Big Mack. With that being said publications like the “black-owned & operated” The Reporter Newspaper & Mecca Media Entertainment located here in Akron Ohio should be looked at as Akron’s authentic voice for the African American experience here in our beloved city that I like to call BLAkron Ohio.

We here at Mecca Media/Akronhiphop.com are honored to be partnered with The Reporter Newspaper (whose been telling our stories for over 50 years). A few years ago we have launched a YouTube page/channel. In recent years we only used the platform as storage for the many interviews that we’ve done throughout the years. Now we are creating specific content to help promote or YouTube presence. We have decided to do a weekly broadcast of Akron’s local news as it pertains to the city’s African American community. We are simply calling the broadcast Akron (BLAkron’s) Local News. The broadcast will primarily feature political annalist Kat Israel as our host. Kat Israel also does a vlog titled Politically Speaking with Kat Israel which also can be viewed on our YouTube page. In closing, if you haven’t subscribed to our YouTube channel please click the following link and do so.
