| Pop Sensation Beyonce |
In a time where powerhouse campanies like MTV and Radio One has their hands all-over the entire game, I like so many others seek musical refuge by going to the Internet. As always we here at ill-board.com try to promote the obscure and unique artists that doesn't get their far share of fame. But every now and then we hear a few songs by so-called major artists that we really like.
The first new track comes from pop sensation Rihanna titled Man Down. When I first heard the song I was doing my listening to the radio while driving thing and I thought, who is this? I noticed the Dance-hall track accompanied with the Caribbean flavored sinning and thought this is a hot way for Lauren Hill to make her comeback to the game. In-short I thought the song was so intriguing and thought provoking that L-Boogie of The Fugees was recapturing her crown. It wasn't until a few days later when I was watching MTV Jams that I saw Rihanna singing the song in the video. I was kind of shocked, but at the same time happy because Rihanna was responsible for this hot joint. When I went to Internet to do my weekly tracking I was shocked once again because since June 1, 2011 the video already has over 25 million hits on you-tube. This proves the pop appeal of an artists like Rihanna...Wow!
Another hot single that I've heard from another pop artist is titled Fast Lane by Eminem and Detroit rapper Royce Da 5'9. This track has a retro hip hop attitude. The production is up-tempo and aggressive. Eminem and Royce pass the lyrics back and forth like old school vets. One of the most telling lyrics of the song is when Royce says " my blood type's the 80's" signifying that he is still holding the flag for the preservation of real hip hop music and culture. The chorus has some guy singing ala the late Nate Dog. With this hook, it completes the song making it more universal. The lyrics that both MC'S spits on this track have got to be the best I've heard in a few years. At this point I've got to say that Eminem is one of the greatest of all time.
Now a couple of Major artists that I feel kind of missed the mark. First is T-Pain featuring Chris Brown titled Best Love Song. Now don't get me wrong since May of this year the video have gotten over 3 million hits on you-tube. In contrast to Rihanna's over 25 million hits since June, 3 million hits just don't sound that get for a T-Pain and Chris Brown Joint. And the song doesn't sound that great either. The production is a mid-tempo electric guitar laced pop fusion of-not so hottness. I really don't like the musical direction T-pain is going with his new singles and videos. In-short this is a very corny attempt of keeping T-Pain in front of a pop audience.
Next major artist to miss the mark is the super diva herself Beyonc'e. On her new single titled Girls run the world, she uplifts all the things women do to help the world go round. The production comes off like a weak attempt to capitalize on her international success. The beat sounds like some African drums going every which-a-way. In-short the song comes off like a public service announcement geared to teen aged girls. C'mon man!!!!! Both T-Pain and Beyonc'e are true pop stars. Remember, pop is short for the word popular and pop is not a sound. You two are popular because you all made quality hip hop flavored R&B music and they crossed over to you. Until next time have some fun and get something done.
