| Miguel is proving that art is relevant |
Have you ever heard a CD once upon a time and forgot everything about it? Or have you listened to a CD and nothing, not even one song stuck out? Well I'm guilty of that like so many others. Sometimes when I'm doing these articles or blogs I sometimes don't even give Cd's a second chance. Now myself I try not to hate on a project but sometimes it gets hard trying to find the politically correct words for-this CD is wack as hell.
In-regards to singer, songwriter and producer Miguel and his CD titled Sure Thing, the before mentioned comments does not apply. At a time where art has been some-what lacking in the music industry, it's good to see that an artist can still be relevant in today's very trendy market.
The CD starts off with the lead single titled All I want is you featuring J-Cole. The song is a smoothed-out R&B joint with just enough hip hop undertones to satisfy modern radio. The song comes off like something R&B crooner Carl Thomas would've done. If you're familiar with Carl's work then you can relate to Miguel's artistry and swagg on this song. I think that the way this song comes off simply makes this track the perfect lead single to introduce us to this incredible talent.
One thing about Miguel is that standard R&B is too small for him. At times during the CD Miguel sounds like Prince. Complete with electric guitar solo's Miguel manages to capture that old school Prince vibe that made us love the Artist in the first place. On the track titled Be My Vixen Miguel comes off and even sounds like Michael Jackson. The production in-conjuction with the way Miguel sings his notes is definitely Michael Jackson influenced. Another hot track on the project is titled Hero. The production has a mid-tempo dance track kinda vibe, which is perfect for pop radio. The lyrics is simply written but manages to convey everything someone is looking for when they're lonely. Other joints like Quickie and Sure Thing captures that Neo-Soul vibe and at the same time holds down that blazin hip hop and R&B. All in all Miguel is an artist that is much needed and the CD that he brings to the table is clearly a breath of fresh air. Until next time have some fun and get something done.
