| Jennifer Holding it together at the 2012 Grammy's |
Every year about this time I get excited about the Grammy Awards. To me it's like the Super Bowl of the music industry. And like the Super Bowl only the best of the past year get recognized. Before I go into my usual review I think it would be in bad taste not to give a special shout out to the family, friends and fans of the late great Whitney Houston. I thought about just writing about Whitney, but realized that almost everything that can be said about this great talent has already been said. But I will say this, her legacy will shine for ever.
Now this years Grammy Award Show produced many things to talk about. But one thing that can be said is how great of a job LL Cool J did as the host of the show. I can remember back in the day watching these same Grammy's and never seeing any Hip Hop during the entire show. Now it makes me feel good to know that MC Lyte is the president of the L.A chapter Grammy board and to see LL doing his thing and "doing it well". The way he handled the opening of the show was classy to say the least. I think that he promoted a very positive look for Hip Hop and rap music as a whole. Remember, LL Cool J is an MC before any other talent and it was evident at this years Grammy's
The biggest winner goes without question to the sultry singer Adele. She won all six of her nominations including the biggest one of the night- Album of the year. Her performance of the song titled In the deep was just sensational. Look, if you are one of the few that's not on the bang-wagon of this incredible talent then just check out some of her videos and I'm sure you'll be joining the rest of us for the ride. Bruno Mars did his thing with the full James Brown salute going on. I think that when it comes to Bruno Mars it was good to see that he got nominated all those times. To me this solidified his greatness.
Chris Brown did his usual lip-synced dance routine. Now don't get me wrong I'm not hating but besides the great dancing what's the difference between what Madonna did at the Super Bowl to what he did at the Grammy's. All I'm saying is turn the microphone on so that he can at least say something to the crowd during his routine. I also like the whole DeadMau5 pronounced Dead Mouse thing. The beats and graphics was crazy. The Foo Fighter, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and producer David Guetta all rocked the house during this Dub Step performace. Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London, United Kingdom. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals".
I think the performance of the night had to go to Jennifer Hudson. She did a Whitney Houston song that was right on time. I love this tribute seeing that Whitney was her inspiration. During Jennifer's performance I could see the pain and hurt all over her face. But her voice never cracked. She is clearly one of the best singers in the game right now. Other notables that hit the stage at this years Grammy's was Alicia Keys, Rihanna and of course Nicki Minaj. In regards to Nicki's performance, Mama said if you can't say anything good about a person -don't say anything at all. With that being said, have some fun and get something done.
