Every now and then I get the opportunity to talk to someone that have been in the local rap game for years. If you know me, then you know that promoting independent artists and the record labels that they represent is kinda my thing. I've been fortunate enough to see the local rap scene become what it is today. When it comes to who's who regarding the top rappers in the city, one of them has to be Flames OhGod.
Flames have been rapping and putting in work since the tender young age of 6 years old. He was more than just family entertainment during visitations and celebrations. This young guy use to be rocking the stage in front of hundreds of concert goers. I know personally because my brother and I use to host a few of his shows. It comes to know surprise that he has matured into one of the cities top rappers.
His record label (Strictly Street Music Group) is a full fledged operation complete with a roster of artists. Mr. Showbiz, Profit The God, KB The Goddess, Big Black Da Boss, Rome Da Savage, producer Fredo Rothschild and my man Throttle Tha King all make up Strictly Street Music Group.
One of the things that set Flames and his label aside from "most" other local operations and crews is simple-they do shows/concerts across the country
Flames latest Cd is titled "Now & Forever" is a double disc project. That's right, it will have just about thirty tracks for your listening pleasure. The project will not only feature his label mates but also national recording artists as well. Dealing with national artists from different parts of the country has helped Flames notice the need for community development. So he decided to create a campaign called "Strictly Saving lives". This program is a toy drive for kids that have lost a parent to drugs like heroin.
In-closing, it's good to see someone that have been rapping and representing the culture for so long and at the same time transcend the boundaries that so-called local mindset.
