I was just saying that during these crazy times for black America we need some social consciousness in our music. We can talk about all the local murders here in Akron or what seems like a national attack on young black males by police officers all over the country. Some people have blamed Rap music for many of these incidents. I've read where people said that police officer's should be afraid when confronting a young black males simply because of the images that one sees via the media. More importantly, the writer said that music videos are at the forefront of this trend. To me this makes some sense but on the other hand this is stereotyping and racial profiling in the purest form.
But the point was made that "the current state of rap music was contributing to this form of thinking" can not be denied. I think not only the images that we see in a standard rap video contributes to this foolish behavior by the cops. But I also believe that it affects our youth in a some-what negative way.
When you really think about all of the senseless murdering going on in the city and other cities across the country. We as a people accepts black on black crimes as if its not as bad as police officers doing us in. To me it's all the same. And I will go as far as rap music has some blame.
The Blame that I put on the rap culture is that there's simply not enough positive social conscious music being promoted. That's right, the absence of righteous rap music is affecting our youth in a negative way. The most damage is being done by way of de-sensitizing them to violence and murder. Rap music is not the only medium that's doing this to our youth. Other mediums like movies and of-course video games both has a significant role in this process. The question remains, what can be done?
How about, we charge popular rap acts to be more responsible in-regards to some of their content. Just think about it, If every rap act or group would put at lest two socially conscious songs on their mix-tapes or albums then the trend would shift in a positive. I can imagine Drake and Meek Mill dropping some knowledge during this so-called beef that the rap community is enjoying right now. But I know I'm only dreaming and two positive songs from today's current chart toppers is only wishful thinking but thank god we still have Public Enemy.
Public Enemy just released a new studio album titled Mans Plans God Laughs. And this full length project couldn't of came at a better time. The subject matter is classic Public Enemy. Black pride, social consciousness and fight the power are all much needed ingredients to a Public Enemy project. The video's that's been released so far are getting great reviews. For those that are not familiar with front man Chuck D's lyrics and delivery, let's just just say that he's one of the best to ever do it. So if you are in need of some positive radical tracks that will no-doubt become the soundtrack to this up and coming march on Washington on Oct.10, 2015 I suggest you pick this joint up. Until the next time, have some fun and get something done.
