So the 2015 BET Awards took place in L.A this past Sunday. And as most of you know, this has become just as important to the music industry as the once more popular and glamorous Grammys. Every year BET award and showcase some of the past year's hottest African American talent. More specifically they try to showcase the top stars in the land of movies, television sports and of-course music. And always they managed to do just that minus a few stars here and there.
The show it self was hosted by television's own Blackish co-stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross whom I thought did a pretty good job. But before I talk about some of the awards given and performances that happened on the inside. I would like to just shed a little light on some of the acts that performed on the red carpet stage before hand.
The red carpet production was two hours long and was filled with some of the games new and hottest acts. Singer Jerimih did his thing when he performed his hot single titled "Airplanes". French Montana showcased and world premiered his latest music video titled "Off The Rip". And of-course Augusts Alsina did the same thing with his music video and song titled "Hip Hop". But what took me by surprise is how much the fans enjoyed the Travis Scott performance featuring 2 Chains. His performance was so energetic that I even took notice. I really enjoyed his part of the red carpet production. My home town favorite Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) also did his thing representing Cleveland to the fullest with his performance.
Now when it comes to the show it self I got to say the award that I can remember being giving is the one that Nicki Minaj didn't even realize what it was. Now I do remember the recognition awards that Janet, Smokey and Chris Brown received. But anything else I just can't remember. I like to blame BET as a whole for that because it seems that they put way more focus on the performance end of the show, that it often comes off as a concert of sorts. Speaking about concerts Kendrick Lamar displayed why he's the games best rapper. His stage presence and performance of the song "We gone be alright" was right on time. I loved some of the revolutionary visuals that he had going on. Another hot performance was by Digenna who did his hot single titled "Classic Man". Again he showed some positive imagery in his performance as well. Of-course I enjoyed the "BadBoy reuion". I thought acts like Carl Thomas, Craig Mack, Black Rob, Total and Loom was sorely missed. But Mase, Faith, 112 and Lil Kim did their thing. Since everyone is talking about Diddy falling into the whole while doing his thing I'm going to take a different approach. Diddy did what every professional should have done-he kept performing. Thus demonstrating what he has been saying all along " I thought I told that we won't stop". Proving that he's a man of his word and the ultimate professional. Other notable performances were by Tamar Braxton, K-Michele and Patti-Labelle, Chris Brown, Ciara and Fett Wap. All in all the show was pretty good but it would've been better with even better talented stars. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
