One of the things that I like most about rocking with ill-board.com /The Reporter Newspaper is....I can promote all types of music. With that being said, artists like Rick Ross, Jay Z, Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne and the rest of those typical Blazin Hip Hop and R&B acts need little help with positioning themselves in the market-place. Not taking anything away from any of these mainstream artists but I like to shed a little light on the not so popular artists the most. Some of the "not so popular" artists have not always been "not so popular".
Onyx is one of those rap groups that was once at the top of the Hip Hop food chain. A by product of the late great Jam Master Jay, Onyx not only had major hits and platinum selling records-they also transcended the boundaries of music. Both front-men of the group (Fredro Star and Sticky Fingaz) have successfully become quality actors in their own right. But you know "what they say" once a rapper always a rapper. With that being said, the crew is back with yet another CD produced by The Snowgoons titled Wakedafucup.
Hailing from Germany The Snowgoons is not new to hooking up with Hip Hop royalty. East coast rappers like The Boot Camp Click, M.O.P and P.M.D have all reaped mad beats from this production team. This time around the mad face invasion (Onyx) gets the hook up.
The project as a whole is a breathe of fresh air. The lead single and video off the project titled Wackdafucup reminds the listener and fans that we have been rocking with the same lame brand of Blazin Hip Hip and R&B for far too long. When I watch the video- it made me get excited and hyped like we used to back in the days when we heard M.C's really spitting that fire. Of-course the song features Dope D.O.D and they both held up their end of the bargain when came to the lyrics. Now, for all of the new comers that may not be use to Onyx and their brand of Hip Hop music-two words you have to keep in mind (Hardcore and Loud).
Which brings me to another song off the project titled Turndafucup and yep you guest it-it's about getting "turned up" or hyped. Now whose else other than Lil John could've pulled a song off like this. Other songs like Whut Whut and Buc Bac are your traditional call and response Hip Hop joints that have become Onyx's calling card.
During a time where everything is starting to sound alike, this new Onyx CD (Wakedafucup) is a much welcome change of pace. I think this is the perfect way for the new Hip Hop fan to get educated on some of the not so new school acts. With the help of You-tube people can just check out the new music video and follow all the other relevant Onyx videos. Again, if you want to check out some real ill Hip Hop than this CD is for you. Until next time have some fun and get something done.
