Here's whats i see is going on. DirecTV Usually pays Viacom for their BUNDLE of channel (nick, BET, MTV, Logo, VH1, Comedycentral). Now Viacom wants to up their price for their bundle of channels. (why? they believe their channels are worth more than what they are paid for them. Fair enough, they ARE important channels.)
This price increase (althought viacom is saying its "a few pennies extra each day per customer") Will actually result in a 30% increase in DirecTV customer's bill. (unfortunate for DirecTV, And unfair to the customers.) So that wasnt gonna Fly.
To Compromise, DirecTV wanted Viacom to allow individual customer to pay for ONLY the channels they WANTED to watch, instead of this "all or nothing" Bundle. However Viacom Won't budge on it. They want the customer to pay for ALL the channels whether they want them all or not.
As the Deadline approached VIACOM Threatened DirecTV with a Lawsuit if they didnt either Pay up or Pull the plug.
So this is where we are now... channels that say "Kids Mix and Mixed Channels" I Don't think they will be Gone for TOO long. Viacom is HOPING that direcTV's Customers will turn against DirecTV by blaming DirecTV for it. (saying DirecTV "Dropped" Viacom. More like was forced.)
Dont switch carriers. Its what Viacom wants to force DTV to accept the terms, and when Dish's contract is up, everyone is predicting that Viacom will pull the same stunt on them too.
