Hip Hop take center stage
|
The Black Eyed Peas
It's been a big year thus far for hip hop music. First we've had The Black Eyed Peas doing their thing during the Super Bowl. When I saw The Peas doing their thing I realized that know other Hip Hop act could've pulled that type of show off. By that kinda show I mean bridging the gap between the hip hop community and so-called standard America. A few people has said that the Peas don't represent hip hop. I just want to stress the fact that hip hop music and culture has always been about diversity. The streets really don't feel The Peas but others prefer a non threatening form of rap music. Some people seem to forget that hip hop music and culture has always been about having a good time. And with the help of super star Usher The Peas opened the door for maybe another hip hop act to represent at the big game in the future.

Rihanna
Now everybody is talking about The Grammys and of-course I got to put my five cents in. First and foremost hip hop music was once again in the spotlight on music's big night. Like the Super Bowl The Grammys is considered to be the music industry's Super Bowl. I can remember when my brother and I couldn't wait to the big night to see all the big artists doing their thing. But back in those days we never saw any hip hop music being represented during the broadcast. This happened before the music industry recognized the music as an art-form. It wasn't until the end of the 80's that we would even hear the Academy even say anything about the music. But after DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince received the culture's first Grammy the hip hop train would never be denied again.

Eminem
This years Grammys was big for real hip hop. The culture was center stage receiving the most nominations per Eminem. That's right; a real MC represented for hip hop in a major way. Many years and of-course days go by when I feel that true lyricism will never get it's just do, but Eminem put it down this past year and received two Grammys for his effort. During his performance at the show- it was simply off the hook. When he did the song I like the way you lie featuring Rihanna I really felt there energy through the television. Then after that he broke into a new track dedicated to his mentor Dr. Dre and by the end of the song The Dr. himself hit the stage performing the last verse on the track. Now that was hot to see N.W.A's Dr. Dre performing at the Grammys.

Cee Lo Green
During the so-called hip hop medley Eminem shared the stage with Lil Wayne and Drake performing the song Forever. Like I always say hip hop makes me proud when we have real mc's holding it down representing and staying true to real lyrics. I almost forgot Eminem and Lil Wayne did the hot cross over joint Drop the world. Other noticable artists during the show was B.OB, Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae and Cee Lo Green. And for the people who venture outside the hip hop box Lady Ga Ga and Mick Jagger showed off as well. Until next time have some fun and get something done.
