Let's Talk Black Panther From An Akron Woman's Perspective

Courtney Trice

So by now many of you have gone to see the phenomenal film Black Panther! And I'm sure you were amazed at how wonderful this film was. From the cast to the great cinematography, they captured the most amazing story of strength and excitement.  I took my 3 yr. old grand daughter who was captivated by the film. She watched in expectation and excitement. She was alert through the entire film. I didn't expect her to stay awake let alone to be impressed by what she watched. When the movie was over and we were exiting the theater she says to me "nana black panther was great". Wow, I was shocked she was touched by what she witnessed. She's three years old and she just watched history being made. She will always remember going to see this film. Since that night all she talks about is black panther. She wants to see it again and I'm going to take her.

Black Panther broke records and regarding its support and money made. It also got some people up in arms from talks about our people showing up in our African attire. Foolish comments were made about giving the black community money. Come on people, let's not take this great moment in history of film and get ignorant. This was Marvel Comics film that showcased its cast of all black characters in the most amazing light. It showed you Africa in her beauty and strength. It showed you culturally that Africa is not a poor continent it has lush land, beautiful cities and it showed you our people and their vibrant tribal colors, head dresses, jewelry, tribal differences of lip plates piercings and so much more. We were displayed accurately and nothing less. My favorite breathe taking part of the movie was Warrior Falls, why ? Glad you want to know the scene was amazing to see all the tribes presented on the cliff in all their glory and pride of these great cultures.

The Dora Milaje was refreshing to see,  women who vowed to protect and serve Wakanda and the king no matter who is seated in the seat. That translated to me in volumes that as black women we should protect and serve our black men no matter what shape and condition they are in . Don't get me wrong, we have some fallen kings who's crowns got twisted in the fall that causes you to handle them accordingly but that's another story.  As to the foolish talk regarding why could you ever think Marvel is giving the black community money?... This movie was not for political gain This story was already written and Ryan Coogler brought it to life in a most amazing way and I say THANK YOU!

To "our" people who talked trash about usshowing up dressed up in African garbs-do me a favor and close your mouth!!! Because folks came out in droves dressed when Star Wars came out, Harry potter came out , star trek and so on. So because we did it for black panther and some had drummers and a whole production doesn't make us foolish it makes us proud . It makes us extra! It makes us larger than the cell society "they" keep us in. Stop the self hate, stop spewing poison, stop the slave crab mentality and unify please.  To my readers I hope you enjoyed my view on this and if you have not seen this movie go and take your family. If you have seen it go again it is worth it ! And lastly Kendrick Lamar your music to this film was amazing.

Thank you all
