It's been a while since I talked about the current state of Hip Hop music. Since it's a new year, and we all know what comes with a new year-yep you guessed it "more wack music". In all fairness I shouldn't be calling anyone's art wack but when it comes to pushing the creative envelope artists and record labels alike are both coming up short. This past year we have seen an all out assault on our intelligence as well as our humanity-that's right i said it Humanity. Current chart topping songs are belittling at best. Now don't get me wrong I know good production or a good beat when I hear it but this is rap music we are talking about "Rap Music not Beat Music"so the content should be just as powerful as the beat. They're too many wack songs to name so instead I will talk about a few up & coming artists that's putting in work by helping to create an intelligence curve when it comes to Hip Hop music.

If you're not hip to a rapper named Saigon then you've been sleeping under the underground. Remember, an artist is considered an underground artist when hardly any Pop/R&B radio or MTV/BET support are given. That's right it takes the good ole fashion word of mouth to get the ball rolling on these acts.
Saigon a one time jail bird has changed his life for the better. While in jail, he committed to change his ways and actions. As a free man he put in all the hard work thus generating a buzz for himself all over the streets and the web. With production by Just Blaze , Saigon intelligent yet street since flow is the perfect blend to bring Hip Hop back to the masses. Another artist goes by the name of Cory Gunz the son of Peter Gunz (of Lord Tariq and the Peter Gunz fame). Cory didn't' ride the coat tail of his father to come up in the game he did it the old fashion way- he earned it. If you don't know Cory Gunz by the new single titled 6ft 7ft with Lil Wayne, you should know he is one of the best freestyle MC's out there. With the help of you tube & other web sites Gunz have generated enough buzz to land him a record deal with Lil Wayne's label Young Money. Do yourself a favor & check out youtube.com and see how good the boy is. Other artists that I feel deserve credit for bringing true lyrics and art back to the game is Nicki Minaj, Kid Cudi, Kanye West Drake and Wiz Khalifa.
