For those of us in Northeast Ohio who couldn’t make the pilgrimage to San Diego for the world’s biggest comic and pop culture convention, the vibe didn’t stop there. While Comic-Con was lighting up the West Coast with panels, cosplay, and exclusive previews, Akron held it down right here at home with its own celebration of creativity and fandom.
On Saturday, August 8, 2026, the Summit County Akron Public Library’s main campus transformed into a playground for imagination as the annual Akron Geek Fest took over. The free event was open to all ages with the cultural experience for fans of comics, manga, movies, TV shows, and gaming. And you already know Akron-HipHop.com was in the building, capturing every moment for the culture.
Each floor of the library was alive with energy everywhere you turned at each panel, vendor, and gaming station. Local artists showcased their work, turning the space into a gallery of homegrown talent. Cosplayers strutted through the halls, embodying their favorite characters and gearing up for the character parade and cosplay contest in the auditorium.
Among the standout vendors were Route 8 and the Rubber City Ghostbusters, both bringing that local flavor and fandom pride. Families and fans alike got hands-on with free activities like character button-making and the retro video game arcade, proving that geek culture is for everyone no matter your age or background.
