Local Artists Look To Get Paid For What They Do

Professional Artist Dray Evans

Most people here in our beloved city (that I like to call BLAkron Ohio) think that people who draw, paint, or sculpture do it for the love of the arts. To be honest, most artists do create because they simply love what they do. But most of the adult artists are either semi-professional or professional all the way. I personally, like to define “semi-professional” as someone that gets paid for some of the work that they do or produce. Professionalism can be simply defined as someone who gets paid for pretty much everything that they do.

Here in Akron Ohio, most people believe that the local artists here are either semi-professional or just someone that loves to draw or paint as a hobby. As I understood for a while now, quite a few of our local artists are more professional than just simply someone that paints for free or for the “love of it”

Recently, one of BLAkron’s most visible/popular artists (who go by the name of Dray Evans) stopped by our office to educate us about the art culture and how to better understand that local artists should be seen as a local black-owned business. Dray Evans is considered one of the city's best tattoo artists as well as one of the city’s independent filmmakers. To put it in simpler terms Dray Evans's nickname is “Ten Talents”. This brother is truly art in the physical. With that being said, check out my conversation with brother Dray in the video posted below. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
