Happy Hip Hop Music

Pharrell Williams
Every now and then, when I sit down to write about what's hot in the world of music I get depressed. My depression, most of the time is due to listening to terrible songs from terrible artists. Many of the songs on radio have the same sound and subject matter which only compounds my depression. Even when checking out some of the hottest spots on the web my depression seems to get even worst. From the nearly naked women, alcohol and drug abuse to tales of hustling and getting that money "Blazin Hip Hop and R&B" has become seriously one dimensional. This past week I came across something that seriously had me smiling, laughing and grooving. Simply put the song and video made me feel "happy".
Super producer, songwriter and artist Pharrell Williams have been putting in work for many years now. From producing some of the biggest songs and working with super star acts like Jay Z ( and way too many to name here ) Pharrell's imprint is undeniable when it comes to modern pop music as a whole. As an artists he have been the front man of his group called NERD. As a collective they have released a few projects that, in all honesty pales in comparisons to his work as a producer or as one part of the production team The Neptunes
This past year have been a very successful one for Pharrell. Paring up with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers to create the hit song titled Lucky. Also making the title song from one of the years biggest hit movies have put Pharrell more into the spotlight as a solo artist. So much so that he has earn a few Grammy awards for the songs. If you watched the Grammy's show you had to notice the recurring theme. And that theme was clearly "this was Pharrell's night".
Since the success of at the Grammys he was every where doing his thing wearing those silly looking hats. Now before the Grammys I paid little attention to his mega hit title Happy. But I saw a commercial during the show which featured the song- I think it was a Dre Beat commercial. Anyway, Pharrell along with a few others (and animated Dre Beat characters) was simply having fun in the spot. It wasn't until today that I decided to check out the official video for the song.
While checking out the video I noticed that it was just him being followed by a single camera. This guy had me grooving. Then I not that the video had a subtitle and it read (1am). Then I realize that the video that I was watching would run for an entire hour. So I watched it and as soon as he stopped grooving someone picked right back up where he left off and started their own groove session of the song. It was then that I noticed that this song has 24 hours of  video footage of everyday people including stars a like just grooving. Simply put, there's a video for every hour of the day that features Pharrell himself starting it off. One of the things that I like most about the videos is that it illustrates how powerful and universal Hip Hop music can be. Watching him and others groove throughout the video truly will put a smile on your face. Don't forget to checkout his up-coming project titled G I R L which hit the streets o March 3rd. Until next time have some fun and get something done.
