Most of the time when I'm checking out all the latest music to hit the streets and of course the web, I pause and say to myself what the hell is going on.
Now what I mean about that is simple. Why is it that all of today's blazin hip hop and r&b artists singing and rapping about the same things. Years ago I wrote an article for a national music trade publication about the state of modern urban music. For those that don't know urban music is a politically correct way to say black music or music that people in urban communities listen to. It goes without saying but this music has now become the most popular music in the country.That's right, many people young to middle age from the so-called suburbs are enjoying all kinds of urban music.
I'm just saying if everybody from New York to LA is checking for all the latest joints (songs) to hit the web then they got to being seeing exactly what I'm seeing and that's a whole bunch of foolishness. For those that don't know one of my favorite things to do or hobbies is to study the dictionary. In short I like to examine words and their true meanings so that I can really understand what someone is trying to tell or teach me. More importantly, I like to take the time and make sure that I know what is that I'm trying to say or put forth. So for this article the word for the day is foolishness. My Websters New World Dictionary defines the word fool as a silly or stupid person. It also defines the word foolishness as silly; unwise; ridiculous or embarrassed. Again I want you to understand why I'm using the word foolishness. Every time I go to the web to check out all the latest music all I see is foolishness. And the sad part is most of these so-called top notch artists are manifesting the characteristics of the word to the fullest.
The first artist that I have to put on the list is my man T.I. His latest song and video is titled: Ball. The song is yet another attempt from the so-called king of the south to regain his crown or his core street audience. Now I don't know about you but my brother and I USE TO JOKE AROUND and say "this guy T.I. must of sold his soul to the devil". We only joked like that because we thought that was the only way he could come up with so many hits back to back like that.At one point and time T.I. had the game on lock. No matter if you like southern rap or not you had to take your hat off to the king. I remember he had endorsement deals with Coke and Chevy. And he was even doing his thing on the big screen making quality movies. At one point and time we thought that he couldn't do anything wrong-But boy was we wrong. Now this would be the perfect time to bring up all of his misfortunes away from entertainment (his personal struggles and situations). But this article is simply about foolishness in today's urban music. When you hear songs like Ball by T.I featuring Lil Wayne you have to say to yourself dam this is some ignorant sh-t. But when you see the imagery displayed in the video all you see is FOOLISHNESS. Now it could have been worst but this video in-particular is simply unbelievable Are we suppose to believe that Tip and Wayne still hang in the slums like that ass dancing trying to show how relevant they are in the community. CMON MAN!! Get out of here with that bullcrap! I think that intelligent people only see Tip trying hard to regain relevancy in the game and hood. In-closing, times are hard out here and people like T.I and Lil Wayne should be showing what they're doing to positively effect communities like the one that they were representing so foolishly in the music video. Other artist that I'm putting on the fools list is Jim Jones with his song and video titled; 60 rackz (remix) featuring Lil Wayne. The lovely Nicki Minaj featuring Cassie with the song and video titled Boys and rapper Trinidad James with his song and video titled All gold everything. Simply put songs like this does not and will not help make other people comfortable in-regards to the young black male and our struggle. To all these rappers WAKE UP and stop exploiting your own to come up or to get over. Until the next time have some fun and get something done.
