Positive Reflections Nas & Damian Marley
I love the new song and video by the best of both worlds( Nas and Damian Marley) titled Patience. The best thing about these two artists is that they both relate and are mentally connected to our glorious past. Myself being a so-called African American, I to find myself fighting an up hill battle, trying to promote who we really are as a people stranded here in the wilderness of North America.
Nas is the perfect rapper to pull this unity off with Bob Marley's air-apparent, Damian Jr. Gong Marley. When I think of Nas I often think about black power, social consciousness and the positive uplifting of black people here and abroad. Now I know he's a rapper and some of his lyrics are some what worldly. But you have to remember he's a product of his environment and being born and raised in the inner-city of New York can be mentally trying. For a brother like Nas to be a torch barrier in the darkness can be seen as a supernatural act of god. Remember, it is written that god will always have a messenger to remind the people of godly things. It is also written that this messenger will be from and of the people that need reminding. That's why I think Nas is simply one of those dudes. Remember him the movie Belly, he was in essence playing himself. Always the positive reminder of who we are and where we should be heading. If you've missed all of the subliminal messages in the movie then I really think you should check it out once again.
If you don't listen to much Reggae music I still think you should be familiar with the iconic name and music of Bob Marley. One could say he not only left his mark on the world of music but he also left us a few reminders of his greatness, in the form of his children. One in particular, I feel shares the same spiritual hand that guides Nas and guided his father and that's Damian a.k.a Jr. Gong.
I have always said what hip hop music lacks in substance and mental quality-Dance-hall Reggae has it in abundance. In-short hip hop artists will spend the entire CD rapping about one dimensional worldly stuff like: money power and bling. Where as with Dance-hall music almost every artists will take some time to surely sing about god and other socially conscious things. I love the way Damion and other Dance-hall artists keep us aware of what's really real.
Now as far as the new video titled Patience from Nas and Damian Marley, my words can't adequately express the visual and lyrical genius of the song. So do yourself a favor and check out the video at ill-board.com. Until next time have some fun and get something done.
