Conscious Cops = Comfortable Communities

Officer Carlton, Renea Baylor
& Officer Shawn
As we all know, our community usually doesn't get along with the boys in blue. I can go on and on regarding the many different reasons why we as a people have it hard pertaining to a relationship with the city's police department. For this article I'm going to talk about why it isn't necessarily a good thing to have different people (with a totally different culture and back ground) police our communities.

The main reason why it would be a good thing to have "black" police officers policing African American communities is the cultural similarities. Meaning, a black cop will understand the social and emotional situations that they will often see or deal with in our neighborhoods. This is what officers Shawn Taylor and Carlton Starks exemplifies. Recently, I had a chance to talk to these (great examples) of what a police officer can be while working in our communities. Check out my vibe session with the two of them in the video posted below. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
