Rockin With Black Girls Rock Of Akron

Black Girls Rock Of Akron

Many times we get invited out to participate in community events that sometimes end up being just another night out. But such is not the case as it pertains to the Black Girls Rock event held by the Akron collective. The lovely Kimberley Reese from Kim's Kloset (which is a thrift store/boutique shop located in the "New Seasons Plaza") gave us the invite.

The great thing about this event was the sista's spared no expense. They rented out a skybox downtown at the Akron Rubberducks stadium. In all honesty, if you haven't been down there yet I think this summer would be great for you and yours to enjoy the ballpark. As for my experience at the game let's just say the food, beverages, conversation, networking and of course the game was awesome. I truly felt like I was in another city.

During my time there I was able to talk with businesswoman and entrepreneur Renea Wood-Baylor. She told me that the events put on by the sisita's of The Black Girls Rock of Akron was inspired by the national movement. Also, she said that the event was simply to celebrate and empower our local sistas. Moreover, the events should be supported and attended by other like-minded women in our city.

In closing, I was impressed by the women whom I

met during the event. Everybody showed so much class and dignity that it made me feel good knowing that Akron's "Black Girls Rock Movement" definitely challenges the narrative of how black women are perceived. Check out my conversation with the lovely Renea Woods-Baylor in the video below. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
