Why I believe a plant-based diet is best for us.

Isis Maat

At least for me, I feel more peace within and I was a pescatarian for 17 years before adopting the plant-based diet in 2017.  I couldn't give up the cheese so I learned to make that too, out of nuts.  In 2012, an analysis of meat consumption by race showed African Americans as the leading consumers of meat in the US.  In the HBO documentary, The Weight of the Nation, it was noted that if you “go with the flow” in the US, you will eventually become obese. A lack of awareness of these diets or a lack of patient education resources could be why more physicians are not suggesting a plant-based diet.  Research shows that plant-based diets are cost-effective, low-risk interventions that may lower body mass index, blood pressure, HbA1C, and cholesterol levels. They may also reduce the number of medications needed to treat chronic diseases and lower ischemic heart disease mortality rates. Doctors need to consider recommending a plant-based diet to all their patients, especially those with high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and or obesity. Healthy eating may be best achieved with a plant-based diet, which is defined as a regimen that encourages whole, plant-based foods and discourages meats, dairy products, and eggs as well as all refined and processed foods.

In my humble opinion, there are more benefits to developing a plant-based diet than there are for continuing to be a meat eater. Due to the fact that I grew up eating meat, I have experienced both and for me the pros of a plant-based diet far out-way the cons. When I decided to change to a completely plant-based diet, I dropped 50 pounds, I AM healthy, and full of energy. I love this new way of eating.  I feel like I am eating life energy and I pray it shows. I wish the best for myself, so it’s just second nature to want the best for others so I love to share this information. From my past experience and research, going plant-based is the best thing anyone can do to purify their mind, body and spirit in preparation for meditation.
