Akron Black Business Owners Speaks Out About Community Support & Why It's So Important

Chef  Tawon Burton

A question came up out of no-where. I thought that it was such a good question that I would ask a few people their opinion. The question is simple but thought provoking at the same time. The question is.."why is it so important that we as a people support our black owned businesses". Not only did I ask a few family members and friends but I decided to go around town and ask the same question to a few of  the city's most prominent black business owners

Myself, I believe that being self reliant is of the utmost importance regarding doing business with our people. To be self reliant as a people is to simply rely on others. When it comes to doing business with ourselves most of the time we have "over the top" expectations and little to know patience. Interviewing chef Tawon Burton of The Flavor Grill Restaurant was enlightening on multiple levels. He pointed out that we as a people have to give the black business and it's owners the same patience, loyalty and benefit of the doubt that they have when dealing with any other businesses.

I spent an entire day going all across town to interviewing black business owners. It is my hope that you will see and hear why it is so important to support these businesses. Also one of the concepts that almost everyone that I interviewed that day said was..."we need to stay in business so that the youth can see that being a business owner is obtainable". With that being said, thanks to everyone that took the time to share their thoughts. Check out the quick interviews/videos below. Until the next time, have some fun and get something done.
