A few days ago a lovely young lady told me that she realizes that we here at akronhiphop.com and The Reporter Newspaper try to promote the not so popular artists and their music. I thought "wow" I'm glad that she noticed. But more importantly I'm glad that she took the time to let me know such important information. As you may or may not know, we here at akronhiphop.com try to shed light on the national acts that don't necessarily get the attention and promotion that their contemporaries receive. So from time to time you will see a few acts that you may not be familiar with. But it is our hope that you will check out the often positive alternative to what modern hip hop radio is shoving down your throat day in and day out. Now, don't get me wrong we do promote popular acts like Lil Wayne to Trey Songz. But when I see something or someone different that I think the people of northeastern Ohio should know about then I got to promote it. Even over the more popular act.
With that being said, one of the industry's most popular "underground" artist Lupe Fiasco has dropped his 5th album titled Tetsuo and Youth. One thing that you should know about this project is that it may have never seen the light of day. Creative control have always been an issue for the Chicago M.C. If you are familiar with Lupe Fiasco than you already know that he makes music for the mind not the masses. Another point about this so-called positive rapper is he often finds success on the charts without the sex, drugs and negative imagery.
His new project is filled with everything Lupe fans have come to expect. Unique production and witty subject matter combined with social awareness and consciousness are the norm for a Lupe Fiasco CD. One of the hottest songs and videos on and from the project is titledDelivery. The song is simply about how crazy the inner-city is viewed by outsiders. The video depicts a black man ordering a pizza via the phone but the black man pays a little guy to ride his bike to a "white neighborhood" to pick up the ordered pizza. Think about it, the pizza spot not wanting to deliver to your hood-so you have to pretend to live in a "white hood" to get delivery. This is just a sample of the intelligence that you will get when checking out this new CD. If for only the reason of supporting positive hip hop, please check out Lupe's latest project. Until next time have some fun and get something done.
