In a time where change was promised to come, it has become evident that promises of that caliber are contingent on more than words and a smile. In -regards to today's urban music (Blazing Hip Hop and R&B) it seems like modern radio haven't a clue about that promised change. Everyday radio stations and music video outlets and channels promote a steady stream of negativity and foolish behavior. From alcohol and drug abuse, pornography and prostitution, drug dealing and robbery to even violence and murder can all be found on your average radio station everyday. Being aware of this current trend that plague the airwaves-I have decided to promote a few artists that combat all of this negative imagery on a more consistent basis.
This months combatant is a hip hop collective known as The Almighty Havenots. Hailing from the Midwest part of the country (Ohio) one would never know that music with a message can be born and raised on the same terrain as Blazing Hip Hop and R&B. Their latest effort is titledNew Solution, which is the perfect title for giving music lovers something different. The project is a 15 track odyssey taking you to a place that's rarely seen in modern rap music. The project blends Hip Hop, soul music, jazz and spoken word poetry. That's right, the art of the spoken word is prevalent when it comes to the band's front-man Asa Aa'ron. Not only is he a poet but when it comes to his rap skills, let's just say relevant is the word best used to describe his flow. In all honesty listening to the project one would think that only middle aged women would enjoy this brand of so-called spiritually filled music. But that can't be far from the truth. Tracks like: Here I Come and I'm So Blessed will have any lover of Blazing Hip Hop and R&B wanting more. On the song I'm So Blessed you find Asa spitting pure fire about the many reasons he considers himself highly favored. The production of the track sounds like something Kanye West would've done on some of his most successful projects. Other songs like: You And Me Together, Loving You, and Reconnect With You showcases the producer's Charcole Willie a.k.a Steven Buzz Foster elite production and musical skills. All in all, if you like smooth soul music with a spiritual Hip Hop approach than The Almighty Havenots new project is for you.
