B.E.T Awards 2013 "Turn Down"

This years host Chris Tucker
Last night's B.E.T Awards Show lived up to it's slogan " Anything can happen". Now keep in mind, every year when I do my review articles on shows like this I usually write the very next morning without notes. That way I know that the article will truly reflect what really stuck out during the production. With that being said, The first thing that caught my eye was this years host Chris Tucker. I thought that he did pretty good but he often relied on who was in the audience when he had to stall for time so that the stage production could get ready for the next acts. I know that's the main reason why they usually use a comedian for shows like these. But even some of the greats can't prolong and buy that much time without using some sort of an artistic crutch. Another thing that I noticed was the lack of professional preparation and effort in-regards to the presenters. Most of them looked completely lost to what was going on while they're were presenting. And with all due respect, Paula Patton ( Robin Thicke's wife)appeared to be high as hell. Clearly she had to be the most intoxicated star to get in front of a camera yesterday. I was embarrassed for her and her husband because she usually comes off like a very classy woman. Every year when I watch the B.E.T Award Show I'm always watching and hoping that nothing goes too wrong during the production but again every year it's the artists themselves that often show up drunk or high off their ass making them and us as a whole look bad. Remember, many of them are people that the so-called main stream have accepted. In some cases the artist reflect on our communities in a positive light. But when they present themselves as Paula Patton did last night it reinforces negative stereotypes.
The shows slogan "Anything can happen"did the show a dis favor. In my opinion, when you tell some one (over and over again) that anything could happen the person become anxious and the surprise factor is weakened. In shows past the shows surprises seemed bigger because we simply didn't know that they were coming at all
.
Last night's big winners ( as good as I can remember) was Miguel, Nicki Minaj, Asap Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown, Charlie Wilson, Dwanye Wade, LeBron James and Gabrielle Douglas, The movie Think Like A Man, and Jamie Foxx
The shows performers was some of this years hottest acts.
The show started with a performance by Chris brown. During his set he did two of his new singles titled Fine China and the Aaliyah laced trackThey don't know. During his performance Nicki Minaj came out flying over the audience in a cage spitting her usual featured lyrics. I thought thatRobin Thicke did real good. His performance was high in energy and it clearly seemed with the help of rapper T.I. and super producer Pharrell, the audience enjoyed it. Kendrick Lamar tore down the stage with the help of the great Erykah Badu. The performance by Charlie Wilson featuringSnoop Dogg, Pharrell and Justin Timberlake was the shows ultimate high light. I thought Miguel did real good during his performances and I do mean performances. He was putting in work doing his thing with Mariah Carey, J. Cole and his solo performance. I have to be honest, during his solo performance I was hoping that Miguel did'nt get too excited and try something like jumping into or over the crowd like at the Billboard Music Award show. Other noticeable performances were by 2 Chainz, Ciara, Tamela Mann, Janelle Monae with Erykah Badu and a dance hall reggae performance by Dawn Penn, Chaka Demis and Pliers, Bennie Man and Elephant Man. All in all I thought the best over all performance was by Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu. In closing, during a show were "anything" was suppose to happen. The only thing that "did" happen more often than none was the phrase "Turn Up". Between Kevin Hart, Ray J. and Brandy(during the after party show) I think we may have heard that phrase enough times last night to safely put it to rest. Until next time have some fun and get some thing done.
