| Imagery from LiL Wayne's Love Me video |
Now we are seeing some of the big hip hop stars come out with some hot new music. For the last month or so we here at ill-board.com have been promoting some of the hottest and illest new music to hit the streets as well as the internet. The first song that I'm feeling right now is titled Love Me by LiL Wayne. Now for the most part I respect LiL Wayne as an artist as well as an executive. But in all honesty, when it comes to his music traditionally I hardly ever like any of his singles or videos. But in the case of his latest joint featuring Drake and Future (on the hook and chorus) all I can say is WOW!!!! What I like most about this song is that the song has subject matter and LiL Wayne stay on the topic while spitting his usual metaphoric flow. The production of the track is sinister with a hint of evil strings playing in the background. As far as the video is concerned, the director capitalizes on the eerie production by bringing the soul of the track to life. The imagery painted by the director during the video is off the hook. The video is filled with subliminal messages all through the joint complete with a vision of LiL Wayne portrayed as Satan himself. The video gives the viewer more to watch than your average half naked women/ bottles in the club scene. All in all the song and video is hot and should be on the charts for more than a little while.
Another artists that I'm really enjoying right now is Pusha T. He's been putting out quality music and videos for some time now. As a artist under Kanye West's Good Music record label Pusha T has been catapulted to the forefront of the game. His mix-tape titled Wrath Of Cain bears witness to his emerging greatness. One song in-particular from the mix-tape is titled It Doesn't Matter featuring French Montana. On the song and video Push T delivers some of the best (Blazin Hip Hop and R&B) lyrics. During the second verse he alludes that he is connected to the so-called Illuminati and they're responsible for a lot of so-called historical events. As with LiL Wayne's before mentioned track Pusha T pushes pass what has now become traditional lyrical babel to bring forth more creative lyricism. All in all LiL Wayne does it via the video but Pusha T does it with his words.
On the soul music side Miguel has been at the forefront with his mega hit single titled Adorn. Now he's rocking the airwaves with his latest single titled Do You. Now, if you didn't know before now who is his biggest influence- I have to consider you "slow". During the song and video you can see and hear the Prince vibe all over and through it. Now don't get me wrong I think with the hip hop undertones that Miguel brings to his songs make his music appealing to the so-called Blazin Hip Hop and R&B audience. Another song and video by Miguel is titled Candles In The Sun. On this track Miguel shows of his Marvin Gaye vibe in an effort to bring some social consciousness to the urban airwaves. I think the video should be promoted to the next level so that people will be able to see and hear all of what Miguel is singing about on this track. In-closing LiL Wayne's visuals Pusha T's creative words and Miguel's social singing have made me take notice. Hopefully record execs and radio programmers will as well. Until next time, have some fun and get something done.
