AKRON, OH —On Thursday, August 6th, the energy was strong throughout Akron as residents from across Summit County came out to enjoy a full day of community events. One of the biggest highlights of the day was the Summit County Common Pleas Court Open House, an event that brought together community members, court officials, families, and visitors for an afternoon filled with fun, education, and celebration.
The open house was held as part of the celebration of America’s 250th birthday, giving the community a chance to celebrate the nation’s history while getting an inside look at one of Summit County’s most important institutions.
And this wasn’t your typical courthouse visit!
THE COURTHOUSE WAS LIT!
The event brought plenty of activity throughout the building, with attendees taking part in a building-wide scavenger hunt, competing for prizes, enjoying great snacks and refreshments, and participating in interactive tours of the courthouse.
But perhaps one of the biggest highlights was the opportunity for community members to meet and interact with the judges who serve Summit County.
Judges Tammy O’Brien, Kelly McClaughlin, Christine Croce, and Kathryn Michael, along with Administrative Judges Katarina Cook and Alison McCarty, were all on hand to welcome guests, meet with residents, and take part in the celebration.
For many attendees, the open house provided a rare opportunity to see the courthouse from a different perspective — not simply as a place associated with courtroom proceedings, but as an important part of the community.
From the scavenger hunt to the tours, the food, the prizes, and the conversations, there was something for everyone. More importantly, the event created an atmosphere where the community could connect with the people who help serve and lead Summit County every day.
